The Episcopal Church teaches that “Confirmation is the rite in which we express a mature commitment to Christ and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a Bishop.” Persons who are to be confirmed must have been baptised in the Episcopal Church or in another Christian denomination. Adults who have been confirmed by a bishop in the Roman Catholic, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, or any of the Eastern Orthodox churches may be received into the Episcopal Church by the Bishop.
